Sorry it has taken me awhile to continue my blogging. I really had fun with my first post, but I never realized how much effort it takes. Just the thought of making a new post would make me cringe, and I would go back onto my tumblr instead. heh. I decided to move to a Blogger though, so if anyone wants to check out my first review about Graze products, please head on over to my LJ. Also, it has my old blog entries from a bit yonder, but they're quite entertaining...and fangirl-y...just a little bit.
So, my mom decided that I should do monthly facials because my acne wasn't getting any better. No product was working to really stop the acne, even prescribed ointments. I gave in to my mom's suggestion, and we tried out O Skin Care, which my mom found through handy dandy TFC (The Filipino Channel). Facials run about $125 (pricey), but they seem to have promos every month. February was "buy one, get one free", and March was about 20-25% off the price, depending on how many people you bring along with you. The more you bring, the more discount you get, I think.
Anyways, facial was great. It was quite relaxing, minus the extractions that are painful, but are necessary to clearing the skin. I actually felt bad for the aesthetician who handled me on the first facial because I had so much. They use hands to extract the dirt from the pores, so her hands must have been numb. Of course, there is always a sales pitch in the end with products that one must use to continue achieving a clearer skin. I usually zone out, but my mom was eating it all up, and she pretty much bought most of the stuff. She said it is worth trying, especially on my skin, since my track record has been awesome. T_T
Okay, so bear with me on images. I'm not the greatest photographer ever, and I'm dealing with a phone and a 5-year old camera.
There were two more things that they recommend I use - tretinoin cream and a mixer - but I am just not feeling it. I don't want my skin to peel, and I found a better product that seems to be doing the same thing, and it's easier and less of a hassle. What is it? Must wait for the post, and besides, I'm not done testing it out. So far though, I'm really loving it. :D
Disclaimer - My mom bought me these products, and these are my sole opinions. I've been trying these products for a good 1 month.
O Skin Care - Acne Control Benzoyl Wash
I use this both day and night. It has kind of a liquid consistency, more so than a typical cleanser, which is usually a bit thicker. This wash also has little micro beads. I've used a benzoyl wash before, and it didn't contain micro beads, so it was quite a surprise when I put it on my face. It has a chemical scent, which I don't think many are fond of, but I think it does its job. My face is left feeling quite clean and not too dried out, which can happen when dealing with benzoyl peroxide. Keep in mind that I do use a water-based makeup remover before cleaning with this wash. I'll review that another time.
Obagi - Nu-Derm AM/PM Toner
I use this both day and night. Ever since I was young, I loved toners. I found it fascinating to put a liquid onto a cotton ball and just rub it in my face. The scents were always pleasant. This one is not any different, and I really like this toner. Everything is just pleasant about it. It has a blue-ish color when placed in an exfoliating pad that I use, and it just glides onto my face with no harsh reactions. It has a cooling factor instead. Scent is light, where you can smell it, but not overpowering. It soaks into the skin fast. It is just an overall good toner.
O Skin - Acne Cream: Moderate
This would be my least favorite product out of the bunch. It has a thin consistency that caused me to drop quite an amount of product because I had the container tilted, and it just plopped onto the floor. *sadface* When applied on the face, it was really drying. The whole face tightens, which is great for the pores (?), but I would not want to trade my comfort with it. It also has a chemical scent. It doesn't peel or create dry patches my face though, which is a good thing. I only use this during the day.
O Skin - Skin Lightener
This is a product that I use only during the night. Although the title seems to imply that it lightens the skin, its job is more of to even the skin tone. Acne can leave a darkish mark that can be lightened with a skin lightener. It's okay. It does its job. I only apply it to the areas that have discoloration, which are my cheeks and my chin. It has a chemical scent that is quite jarring when applied to the skin. Its consistency is like an ointment, but it takes awhile to rub it into the skin and have the white marks disappear from the surface of the face.
Obagi - Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Sunscreen
This is the best product of the group. I love this sunscreen! I have to admit, I wasn't big on sunscreen, but because of the benzoyl peroxide component of the acne wash and the acne cream, it was a must to put on sunscreen. Otherwise, my face will burn. It just has the right texture, and it is not greasy whatsoever. I love how it becomes kind of a primer and skin color corrector. I currently haven't found a new primer to use, so the sunscreen is the last layer before my face makeup. It holds my BB creme quite well. This product is definitely something I would repurchase again. It stays true to its function, and has a bonus one as well.
So, I've been using it for over a month, and when I returned to get my 2nd round of facials, there was a difference between the amount of extractions that I got. I didn't even have anything to extract on my forehead, which is awesome. I did start breaking out on my 3rd week, which was quite a bummer, but the aesthetician said because I wasn't using the tretinoin + mixer combo on M, Th, and Ss. Apparently, my face has to peel off...I'm still quite skeptical (and cheap. The combo is pricey!), so I've replaced it with something else after my 2nd facial. It is nearing the end of the 2nd week, and so far, so good. Let's hope my face doesn't start collapsing on me next week. *fingers crossed*
